Re-election for Hebron Planning & Zoning Commission

1 October 2011

To the Editor, Rivereast

My name is Lew Hinman and I am running for re-election to the Hebron Planning & Zoning Commission. I have proudly served on this Commission since 2003, the last two years as Chairman. The PZC has worked cooperatively with the other Boards and Commissions on many important projects – Burnt Hill Park, for example. Other key activities have included: revisions to certain regulations to bring them more in line with today’s business environment; sponsoring several STEAP grant applications that resulted in funding for needed projects (sidewalk expansion, façade improvements and a housing study, among others); and actively supporting the recent “Charrette” process with UCONN aimed at starting a dialogue on the long term vision for the Main Street area. Importantly, the Commission has always sought to balance the desires of the land owners, developers and businesses with our planning guidelines and regulations, and the views of the public. I look forward to building on the momentum that has been started over the last few years.

The next few years will be equally important as we begin the update to Hebron’s Plan of Conservation and Development, which outlines the guiding principles for the Town over the next decade. I would welcome the opportunity to continue serving Hebron as a PZC member, and respectfully request your support on Election Day.

Finally, I strongly encourage everyone to vote. Off-year elections traditionally have a very light voter turn-out. Voting is, in my view, more than a right in a democracy - it is a responsibility. I urge you to spend the few minutes it takes and cast your ballot in November. Thank you.
