HEBRON REPUBLICANS ADD TWO NEW CANDIDATES FOR FALL ELECTIONS.

HEBRON – Hebron Republicans have nominated two additional candidates for seats on the Board of Finance and Hebron Board of Education. The Republican Town Committee voted Monday to nominate Terrence Piggot to the Board of Finance and Valerie Watt to the Hebron Board of Education.

Piggot lives on Wall Street with his wife, Annie. They moved to Hebron 30 years ago and raised their two sons here. He has been actively involved in coaching youth sports teams over the years. He said he is running because he is concerned about the increasing strain on tax payers. "I have been in the automotive business for thirty-six years. I have managed dealerships, and have had my own business, making crucial financial decisions on a daily basis … hard choices, just as we face here in Hebron, but the bottom line is the same – we cannot conduct our own business or the town’s finances in the red."

Valerie Watt, of Gilead Street, has three children currently in the school system and has been active over the years in a number of civic and sports activities. She was First Vice President of the Lions and as coordinator of the Girls' Basketball League. Watt also served as an alternate on the Parks and Recreation Committee. A former computer systems designer, Watt is now the owner of Hebron Nail Boutique. She is married to Jeff Watt, a former RHAM Board member and current candidate for the Board of Selectmen. Watt said she is running for the school board because she is concerned about getting "the best education possible to our children with a budget that all of Hebron can support."

"People need to understand that education comes from parents and teachers jointly. We need to be creative in finding ways to provide for our children for activities outside the core education to keep tax dollars down," she said.

Hebron Republican Town Committee Chairman, Dave Schoolcraft, said the addition of these two candidates fills out the GOP ticket and provides a good balance of talent and opinions. "When I look at the list of GOP candidates this year I see good mix of people from different backgrounds, with different perspectives. I am sure they don't agree on all the issues, but that's what we were looking for – reasonable, hard-working people, with a variety of points of view. I encourage the public to go to our website, www.HebronRepublicans.org , to learn more about our candidates."

Watt and Piggot were nominated by the town committee to take the place of Bruce DeGray and Jim Cordier, who had supported the Hebron Republicans by accepting nomination as place holders. Because of early deadlines imposed by state law, local parties will often nominate place-holder candidates at caucus while they finalize their roster of candidates.

Watt to Run for Selectman

Republicans Announce Change in November Elections Thursday, December 6, 2007

Due to the withdrawal by Andrew Bordick as a candidate for the Board of Selectmen’s race in November, the Hebron Republican Town Committee unanimously voted this week to nominate Jeffrey P. Watt for the position.

Bordick recently learned that his job requirements will include extensive overseas travel. “I regret having to make this decision, but at the same time, I believe it is important that Hebron residents have Selectmen who are available to attend all the meetings and deal with Hebron business and Hebron issues in a timely fashion,” said Bordick.

Watt is already well known in the community, having served in the past as Chairman of the RHAM Board of Education and President of the Hebron Lions. He is currently Senior Vice President of Underwriting at Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance Company in Hartford.

“We are extremely pleased that Jeff is willing to serve the Town of Hebron. He brings much knowledge and many years of experience and service to the town,” said David Schoolcraft, Chairman. “We look forward to this campaign with Jeff on the Selectman’s ballot. We also thank Andy for coming forward last June and offering to serve the town. We hope he will consider running for office in the future.”
